Small Biz Highlight: Rosenfield Bagels

When you think Boston, you don’t think bagels. Everyone knows that is New York’s domain. However, you wouldn’t believe how hard it is to find any decent bagel place in Massachusetts. From the time I was a little girl, my grandmother has been taking me to a bagel place in Newton, MA called Rosenfeld Bagels.

Every weekend that I was staying with my grandmother, we would walk across the park and down the road to pick up these fluffy, perfect bagels right at 7:00am when they opened. We wanted the best of the best and they make the bagels fresh every day. They have around a dozen different flavors from cinnamon sugar to egg poppy and the goodness doesn’t stop there. On top of their delicious bagels, they sell home-made cream cheese that will honest to goodness change your life. You can buy fresh in store by the dozen or by a single bagel or you can even order them online (but where’s the fun in that).

The tiny store has been in business since 1973. Located in a tiny underground shop in Newton Centre on 1280 Center Street, with most staff having worked there for over 30 years, they operate like a well-oiled machine. It is the cutest little hole in the wall and the smell of the store is something that cannot be replicated. The smell of fresh bagels can be breathed in from every street corner in town. Next time you are in Newton or are craving bagels follow the smell and head on under to Rosenfeld Bagels! P.S. Try a toasted cinnamon raisin bagel with maple walnut cream cheese. You can thank me later!
